A Wilmette Classic - Wilmette, IL

We had some outstanding materials to work with at the onset of this project. Our clients had major concerns of drainage problems in the backyard, and they wanted their kids to play on dry ground rather than in a swamp. Being creative with what and where to send water is important both functionally and environmentally. Our first priority was to grade things properly. We knew we had to slow the flow of the water down, and we planned on accomplishing this by letting the plants catch some of that water. Next, we decided to create a huge dry well for the excess water to go. After these drainage concerns were engineered, we went to work on the rest of the garden. We created both a hardscape and landscape design to accompany the existing architecture of the home. This Wilmette Classic is a nice example of form following function while maintaining beauty.
